A Walk to Remember

Title: A Walk to Remember Author: Nicholas Sparks Published by: Warner Books Published on: Oktober 1999 Pages: 240

Love is like the wind, you can't see it but you can feel it.

Still in the spirit of the month of love guys, the second review of this month is none other from the master of romance himself, Nicholas Sparks. Weeell, at least until he went overtly sappy, lol.

But honestly, out of all Mr Sparks' books, especially in the earlier era, A Walk to Remember has always been my favourite. The movie as well, even compared to The Notebook which seems to be the most popular of the two. Though there are several marked differences, as usual with these adaptations. See, in the movie, the story took place entirely in the 90s. The book did take place in the 90s, 1999 to be exact. It was told through Landon's POV at 57 years old, who then reminisced of his life 40 years ago.

17-year-old Landon Carter was one those naughty teens in Beaufort, North Carolina -- if by hanging out at cemeteries in the middle of the night with his friends while eating peanust can be considered naughty. It was so in the 50s, though, so he got quite a reputation on him. He also wasn't the brightest kid of the bunch, although he was pretty rich with a charismatic politician for a father.

On his senior year of high school, Landon didn't know where he would apply for college. In fact, he didn't know where his life was headed at all. Eric Hunter, Landon's BFF, the most popular guy in school, promised to use his popularity to help Landon win class president election. As a result, Landon had to plan for the school dance, which he had to attend with a date. He only just found out at the last day, hence nobody was available. Panicking, he only had one option: Jamie Sullivan, the pastor's daughter.

Landon thought Jamie was okay, albeit her overall plain and unflattering appearance. It was her father who intimidated Landon. Pastor Sullivan had Jamie very late, even then he had to lose his wife in the process. So he was very protective of Jamie, who was actually a very sweet girl. The sweater she wore and the Bible she often brought along to school sort of made the other kids shy away and shun her. Aanyway, Jamie agreed to go to the dance with Landon, with that one special promise she requested out of him:

"You have to promise that you won't fall in love with me."

After the dance, it was Jamie's turn asking for Landon's help to participate in a Christmas play held at the local church. Called The Christmas Angel, the play was written by Pastor Sullivan and just this once Jamie wanted to make something special for her father. Considering he owed her a help, Landon said yes and soon the both of them had to spend more time together. And soon, Landon began to wonder that he might not be able to keep his end of the promise after all.

EGGLYSIS

LANDON AND JAMIE ARE JUST TO PRECIOUSSSS I CANTTTT

I dunno why but something about the innocence, the pureness of this pairing just tug at my heartstring and thaw my frozen heart. The plot is very simple and I don't think there is any plot twist, but my buddy Nicky managed to write from the heart. You just can feel his honest emotion seeping from each page.

Landon and Jamie complement each other very well. Jamie helped Landon realise his full potential and grow to become the best version of himself, whereas Landon loved Jamie just right. The kind where you go, "Oh, to be loved like that!"

Overall, A Walk to Remember...
